Why I detest Halloween ....

I have went back and forth with whether or not I should post my view on Halloween or not.I came to the conclusion that it is my blog so why not .What better way to see if anyone out there shares my same views.I am well aware that a lot of people do not so it will be interesting to maybe find someone that does.As for me and my house , we do not celebrate Halloween.I choose not to for spiritual reasons ,you notice I did not say religious reasons ...I believe everyone has their own relationship with God or not and everyone is at different places in that relationship.I do not believe in a "religion" dictating rules and such.I believe we all have to answer to God in the end and we should all do what we as individuals feel is right for us.I use to love Halloween. That was my mothers favorite holiday as well .We always had the coolest parties .Our house was THE place to go every year.We would build haunted houses in the backyard or garage. We would bob for apples all the typical Halloween things that people do.As I got older and closer to God I just did not feel good about celebrating a holiday that so clearly does not glorify God in any way.Nothing about Halloween glorifies God.No one decorates for halloween with cute angels and doves. No, it is witches, bats, monsters and devils.Satan loves this holiday ..It is his time.Christians are to "... have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather rebuke them." [Ephesians 5:11]
I have a friend that I have known for years that is wiccan...He also tells me this is thier day of celebration."Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." [Romans 12:2]."For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial?" [2 Corinthians 6:14, 15].I understand that most people celebrate Halloween and see absolutely nothing wrong with it.They see it as a holiday that the kids dress up cute and go get lots of candy.Us as Christians need to dig a little deeper and not be so accepting of such an evil holiday is my belief.I can not see any reason to celebrate a holiday that glorifies things that are detestable to the Lord. Not even for a day .What does that teach your children as Christians? That you should surround yourself with what is good and pure and holy except on one day, then you can surround yourself with evil and darkness? Why invite the spirit of fear to your child on purpose? That can carry on to many other things in life. The sort of practices celebrated on Halloween are what defiled the ancient nations [see Leviticus 18:24-30]. The Israelites were warned against such practices when they entered the Promised Land, "When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations." [Deuteronomy 18:9]

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so. [Deuteronomy 18:10-14]

This guy said it best when he said: " It does not have even one single redeeming virtue. It is custom born out of pagan superstition. It is a demon-inspired, devil-glorifying, occult festival. It is an evening holy unto evil, death, and divination. The Scriptures tells us to "Abstain from all appearance of evil." [1Thess. 5:22]
That is pretty much the gist of it for me.I detest Halloween ,I really do .I did not post this to be preachy or judgemental but to express my view.If it helps one preson realize the evils of Halloween then that is great. For all of you that are choosing to participate in Halloween then I pray that you have a very happy and safe one:)

  1. I appreciate knowing more about your dislike of Halloween.

Christmas and Easter were also merged with pagan holidays. It was a marketing scheme, to help spread Christianity, and some of the pagan symbols, like eggs and bunnies at Easter (symbols of fertility)have become so much a part of our celebration that we can't imagine the holiday without them. Halloween is All Hallow's Eve, the night before All Saints Day. It used to be, to my mind, a fun and harmless holiday.

Nowadays we have horror movies which apparently aren't intended to scare you, like a good Hitchcock movie would do, but to disgust you. The more blood and guts, the better. And people pay to see this crap! So everything -- tv, haunted houses, costumes -- tries to equal the shock factor of the movies. To me, a little kid dressed up as The Cat in the Hat or the witch from The Wizard of Oz, going door to door in her neighborhood, is not falling into a trap laid by the devil. It's her elders -- the ones who, by their ticket purchases encourage Hollywood to make ever more movies about perversion and evil so that it takes over our entire culture -- they're the ones who are so far into the devil's trap that now they're luring their children in.

So you see, Stormii, we don't see exactly eye to eye on the details, but we're close on the concept. Are you surprised?

  2. Personally, I have no problem with Halloween. Without it, I never would get any cavities. My problem is with people calling it a "holiday." If it's a holiday, how come I'm always working? That just ain't right...

  5. and above all that...It brings greedy ungrateful little buggers to my door begging for candy and getting pissed off because I ony gave them one piece. And the parents are just as bad.

  7. Great post, Stormii! I don't agree entirely, but I understand where you are coming from. I think Halloween is what you make of it. My children are never allowed to be scary or gorey. Braelyn was a fairy princess all in purple and Jameson a fireman. I think halloween can be fun and cute without glorifying evil.
A hypocritical way of thinking, perhaps.
Thanks for making us think, Stormii! :)

  8. My kids are so clue-less. They believe that Halloween is for dressing up and sayng Trick or Treat repeatedly at every house with a porch light. And if they only get one piece, they say Thank You and move on. I met some really nice parents the other 2 nights. I walked and felt great afterwards. :)

  10. Halloween's not just for kids anymore. Don't you adults dress up and go to parties? Trust me ... it's one of the most fun times of the year!

  11. Halloween is not something most Kiwis grew up with but they are trying to or rather have been trying to get it going over here. Mainly as a commercial thing of course to sell candy and costumes. It has never really taken off and I for am glad of that. We ignore it totally , no one knocked on our door this year at all.

  12. It's never been my favorite. We pass out candy, the kids went out this year.. and last year.. but they didn't for years. For one, it's usually too cold here in WI. I guess I'm just not that into it though, even as a kid C-mas was always my favorite holiday, next to Easter then the 4th.

Btw, did you know the 31st is also reformation day.
